FINDING MISSING PETS
Sometimes people call rescue groups when their pets go missing; and occasionally rescue groups lose dogs in transit or by accident. This isn't a slur on rescue--it happens--I know because it has happened to me. Most rescue groups have their own local resources for recovering lost dogs, but sometimes this is not enough and they must seek help further afield. This section is here to help in that effort and we will begin to list missing pet recovery resources as we get them. If you know of any, or do this service yourself, please contact us at shepdog@gis.net.
www.missingpetpartnership.org is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to reuniting lost companion animals with their owners/guardians. It was founded by Kat Albrecht. They offer behavior-based lost pet recovery tips, referrals to lost pet services, and Missing Animal Response (MAR) seminars that train professional and volunteer pet detectives (many with search dogs trained to locate lost pets) to conduct CSI-like investigative searches that bring lost companion animals back home. There is a newsletter, and Kat has just published a new book, Dog Detectives: Train Your Dog To Find Lost Pets.
GRANITE STATE DOG RECOVERY www.granitestatedogrecovery.com is an organization located in Salem, New Hampshire dedicated to reuniting lost pets with their families. Their website has photos of lost pets, a "found dog report" form, and information on how to go about recovering your pet in the best possible and quickest way.
